CORE FUNCTIONS

  • The core function of the Directorate General (BTB) is to bring new taxpayers on the tax roll and to ensure the filing of returns by them.
  • To achieve this core function a two-pronged approach has been devised.
  • Data on major financial transactions are displayed on FBR’s ‘Malomaat’ portal which every citizen can access by registering himself and viewing his data with the FBR. He can then decide to file his tax return as his national obligation if he is earning taxable income.
  • The Directorate General is also responsible to coordinate and create a link or liaison with the organizations holding data of sizeable financial transactions, obtaining such data sets and utilizing the same to broaden the tax base.
  • Data of high-value financial transactions of selected high-net-worth individuals collected from various third-party sources is also transmitted to the Regional Tax Offices to book these persons on the tax roll and obtain their returns.
  • The Regional Tax Offices are assigned targets by the Directorate General of BTB to book new taxpayers and make them file tax returns.
  • The Directorate General also seek the cooperation of various trade bodies and professional bodies to bring their members on the tax roll and also file their tax returns. These include traders’ associations, and various bodies registering and regulating professionals such as doctors, engineers, accountants, lawyers etc.
