A joint delegation of Pakistan Stock Exchange and Mutual Funds Association of Pakistan called on the Federal Finance Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar at FBR Headquarters in Islamabad.
The Pakistan Stock Exchange was represented by its MD/CEO Mr. Farrukh Hussain and Chief Financial Officer Mr. Ahmed Ali whereas Mr. Mir Adil and Mr. Arif Qadri represented Mutual Funds.
The Finance Minister was accompanied by Dr. Aisha Ghaus Pasha, Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Tariq Bajwa, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Finance, Mr. Tariq Mehmood Pasha, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Revenue, Mr. Ashfaq Tola Chairman Reforms and Resource Mobilization Commission (RRMC), Mr. Asim Ahmad Chairman Federal Board of Revenue and other senior officers from the Finance Ministry and Revenue Division. Governor State Bank Mr. Jameel Ahmad also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, representatives of Mutual Funds Association highlighted the growth of Sharia compliant mutual funds and proposed that short term Sharia compliant sukuk should be launched. They also proposed certain measures to be taken in the upcoming budget to promote mutual funds.
Representatives of Pakistan Stock Exchange highlighted the erosion of market capitalisation over the last six years. They said that stock market is a highly documented segment and a major contributor to the national exchequer. They gave certain proposals to encourage people to invest in the stock market.
The Finance Minister expressed his concerns at the erosion of PSX index. He noted that PSX was at one time one of the best performing stock markets and assured the group that their concerns will be addressed and measures would be taken to encourage investment in Pakistan. He hoped that PSX would reverse the trend and once again become one of the top performing stock markets in the region.

وزیر خزانہ محمد اسحاق ڈار سے پاکستان سٹاک ایکسچینج اور میوچل فنڈز ایسو سی ایشن کے مشترکہ وفد نے ایف بی آر ہیڈ کوارٹرز اسلام آباد میں ملاقات کی۔ پاکستان سٹاک ایکسچینج کی نمائندگی اس کے منیجنگ ڈائریکٹر /چیف ایگزیکٹو آفیسر فرخ حسین اور چیف فنانشل آفیسر احمد علی نے کی جبکہ میوچل فنڈز کی نمائندگی میر عادل اور عارف قادری نے کی۔
ملاقات کے دوران وزیر خزانہ کے ہمراہ وزیر مملکت برائے خزانہ ڈاکٹر عائشہ غوث پاشا، وزیر اعظم کے معاون خصوصی برائے خزانہ طارق باجوہ، معاون خصوصی برائے ریونیو طارق محمود پاشا، ریفارمز اینڈ ریسورس موبلائزیشن کمیشن کے چیئرمین اشفاق تولہ،چیئرمین ایف بی آر عاصم احمد اور وزارت خزانہ اور ریونیو ڈویژن کے اعلیٰ حکام بھی موجود تھے۔ سٹیٹ بینک آف پاکستان کے گورنر جمیل احمد بھی اس ملاقات میں شریک تھے۔
ملاقات میں میوچل فنڈز ایسو سی ایشن کے نمائندوں نے شریعت سے مطابقت رکھنے والے میوچل فنڈزکی گروتھ پر روشنی ڈالی اور تجویز پیش کی کہ شریعت سے مطابقت رکھنے والا شارٹ ٹرم سکوک متعارف کرایا جائے۔انہوں نے آئندہ بجٹ میں میوچل فنڈز کے فروغ کے لئے چند اقدامات بھی تجویز کئے۔
پاکستان سٹاک ایکسچینج کے نمائندوں نے گذشتہ چھ برس کے دوران مارکیٹ کیپٹلائزیشن میں ہونے والی کمی پر روشنی ڈالی اور کہا کہ سٹاک مارکیٹ ایک ڈاکومنٹڈ سگمنٹ ہے اور قومی خزانہ میں اس کا بڑا حصہ ہے۔ انہوں نے لوگوں کو سٹاک مارکیٹ میں سرمایہ کاری کے لئے راغب کرنے کے لئے کچھ تجاویز بھی پیش کیں۔
وزیر خزانہ نے پاکستان سٹاک ایکسچینج کے انڈیکس میں کمی پر تشویش ظاہر کی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ایک وقت تھا کہ پاکستان سٹاک ایکسچینج کی کارکردگی بہت بہتر تھی۔انہوں نے وفد کو یقین دلایا کہ ان کی مسائل کا ازالہ کیا جائے گا اور ایسے اقدامات اٹھائے جائیں گے کہ پاکستان میں سرمایہ کاری کی حوصلہ افزائی ہو۔ انہوں نے امید ظاہر کی کہ پاکستان سٹاک ایکسچینج اس رجحان کو تبدیل کرکے ایک بار پھر اس خطے کی بہترین کارکردگی والی سٹاک مارکیٹ میں شامل ہوگی۔
