Introduction |
Collectorate of Customs, Preventive is one of the most important Collectorates of Pakistan Customs. The creation of Preventive Collectorate was effected in 1973. At that time this Collectorate was dealing with anti-smuggling, passenger facilitation, clearance of bulk imports, and exports related functions. Subsequently, in early 90s, two other Collectorates- Exports and Port Mohammad Bin Qasim - were cleaved from Preventive Collectorate. Currently, Passenger Facilitation, Anti-smuggling , Anti-Narcotics , and Imports related operations at AFU and Oil Section, are the most important functions performed by this Collectorate. The Collectorate has a very vast and historic system of dealing with all the vessels calling at the port of Karachi, whether they are small cargo boats or large car carriers, or even the bulk oil carriers. The anti-smuggling and anti-narcotics functions of the Collectorate are especially important in terms of safeguarding the country from the evils of smuggling and drug abuse. The Collectorate has made highest number of narcotics interdiction cases. |
