The topic for the first day of the Conference was ―Economy of Pakistan & Tax Reforms. Minister of State for Revenue Mr. Hammad Azhar was the Chief Guest at the occasion. The Conference started with recitation from the Holy Quran and after that the Director General DGTR-IR, Miss. Iram Adnan, in her address welcomed the national and international resource Persons present at the event.
Honorable Minister of State for Revenue, Mr. Hammad Azhar in his address straightaway acknowledged the unsuitable working conditions for filed officers of IRS who are short on logistics and resources and yet contributing a great deal to the national cause of generating revenue that is powering the economy.
Dr. Azam Amjad Ch., HoD & Dean, Faculty of Economics, Lahore School of Economics addressed on the Topic of ―Tax and Development.
Dr. Nadeem ul Haque Former Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission of Pakistan & Vice Chancellor, PIDE, Islamabad addressed on the Topic of ―Pakistan’s Development Dilemma.
Dr. Ashfaque H. Khan, Principal and Dean School of Social Sciences and Humanities National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad addressed on the Topic of ―Pakistan’s Experience with IMF.
Day-2
The theme for second day of the International Conference on Taxation was ―Inter governmental Exchange of Information, Digital Economy and Financial Investigation.‖ The Director General of DGTR (IR), Miss Iram Adnan, welcomed the national and international guest speakers on the second day and apprised the audience of the second day.
Syed Shabbar Zaidi, Senior Partner, AF Fergusan & Co. Chartered Accountants/Member Tax Advisory Council, Government of Pakistan addressed on the topic of ―Digital Economy– Challenges for Taxation.
Mr. Kevin Perriment, Project Officer for Sustainable Criminal Justice Solutions (SCJS), A British High Commission project for developing national curriculum of financial crime investigation spoke on the topic of Institutional Strengthening for Combating Financial Crime The session was extension of theme of second day of International Conference on Taxation which was linked to international mutual assistance in tax administration and efforts towards financial crime control and tax evasion.
Mr. Dominic Maguire, Financial crime consultant, former financial investigator with New Scotland Yard, London addressed on the topic of ―Financial Investigation—Open Source Research Techniques.
Day 3
Third and last day of the International Conference on Taxation revolved around the theme
―Large Taxpayers, IT Capacity & Big Data. Proceedings began with the recitation of a few verses from Holy Quran. Director General started off the proceedings for the last day with her address in which she welcomed the participants and recapitulated the key takeaways of previous two days.
Ms. Anna P. Kireenko, Chief Researcher, Ural Federal University, Russia addressed on the Topic of ―Large Taxpayers: The Russian Experience.
Dr. Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmed, Chief International Taxes, FBR addressed on the Topic of ―LTU-ization Of Tax System In Pakistan.
Mr. Prakash Kumar, CEO of Goods and Services Tax Network, India, Former Officer of Indian Administrative Service. His topic for address was ―Goods and services tax–Transforming Indirect Tax Regime.
Syed Tajammal Hussain, Founder and CEO LFD, Pakistan’s largest artificial intelligence consulting Company addressed on the Topic of ―Big Data and Broadening of Taxbase.
Mr. Muhammad Jahanzaib Khan, Chairman, FBR and Secretary Revenue Division, thanked and congratulated the Director General of DGTR (IR) on organizing a successful and valuable International Conference on Taxation and urged her to make such events a regular feature.
At the end of the session, Mr. Chairman distributed certificates and shields to the speakers and also to the faculty in acknowledgment of their tireless efforts to make the three-day conference a success.
