A one-day workshop on e-filing of Income Tax Returns was held at 10:00 a.m. on 09.10.2013 in the Conference Room, at Regional Tax Office, Faisalabad. The workshop was attended by a large number of members/ representatives of government, semi government, private organizations and trade bodies. Mr. Mehmood Aslam, Commissioner IR, IP/TFD/BTB, inaugurated the session and welcomed the participants. He emphasized the importance of filing of returns and withholding statements as a national cause.
Addressing the salaried class he said that they had been contributing their share of tax into the national exchequer through at source deduction, however, the same was not be recognized in tax roll due to non filing of their tax returns. He stressed that the educated class of the society was made aware of this fact so that they filed their tax returns had the credit of tax deducted and claimed themselves proud law abiding tax payers.
The audience were also informed that as per section 114 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, any person whose gross income for the tax year 2013 (financial year 2012-13) exceeds Rs.400000/- had to file the return of income in which he/she could have the credit of tax deductions made during the year and also claimed the refund of over deducted amount. It was also shared that the employers statement filed in lieu of return were no more in vogue and now that was the responsibility of the individual to file his/her Income Tax Return before the due date. They were also informed that the persons deriving income of Rs. more than 5,00,000/- were required to e-file their Income Tax Return on the Federal Board of Revenue’s portal, instead of manual return.
Mr. Ehsan Chaudhry, Manager PRAL, deliberated the procedure of e-registration and e-filing of Income Tax Returns. The participants took keen interest in learning and understanding various steps of the procedure. The queries/questions raised by the participants were answered by the worthy Commissioner and his team.
